Home Fire Safety

CFA Brigades attend more than 1000 house fires every year.

Fortunately there are a few simple things you can do to help protect your family from the dangers of fire.

Taking the time to "check your hotspots", making sure you have a working smoke alarm, and preparing a home escape plan can give you a greater chance of avoiding the devastating effects of fire.

  • Know the common causes of house fires and ways to prevent them from occurring in your home
  • Make sure you have a working smoke alarm
  • Install home fire safety equipment including a fire blanket and fire extinguisher and learn how to use these
  • Make a home fire escape plan and practise it with all members of your family
  • Teach all members of the family how to dial 000 in an emergency
Your Home Fire Safety Brochure

Most fatal fires occur in the home, but the real tragedy is that many of these can be avoided.
